MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. MIDI is a language that allows a computer to record and playback music from any electronic instrument. It is the standard for representing musical information in a digital format.

MIDI has come a long way since its birth in 1983. When it was first introduced, the sounds that it controlled were computer models of what an instrument should sound like. Today, technology has allowed us to trigger sounds recorded from ACTUAL instruments and string them together to create music. What was once a computer programmers idea of a trumpet sound, is now a real trumpet recorded playing all different articulations and inflections. We use these recording of all kinds of instruments together and a MIDI orchestra is born.
